Post-Holiday Reset: Healthy Eating & Detox Tips

The New Year has rung in. How can we make sure that these first few weeks of the year count for us? Setting goals now and taking the first steps towards achieving them is incredibly powerful and will lead to success. Now is the time to hit your reset-button after the indulgence of Christmas and the holidays.

Start the Year Strong – Top Hacks for Healthy Snacks:

Be prepared. Don’t be caught off guard.Take a piece of fruit, small put of yoghurt (and spoon!), or a small tub of nuts along with you when you know you’re likely to be hungry later.

Don’t succumb to the sugar-carb-laden muffins, etc. Instead, opt for nut-based snack bars, maybe the off high protein bar, or grab a few pretzels. I also swear by having something substantial like veg sticks and hummus or guacamole as a mid afternoon snack to keep you going until the gym or dinner.

Rehydrate.Hydration is absolutely essential for energy and to stop those snack-attacks. All your biological functions take part inside our cells within water. So when you are even a little dehydrated you will immediately notice reduced concentration and sweet craving. Keep sipping away at your water bottle throughout the day. Aim for drinking 750ml before lunch and then again after lunch.

Here are some ideas for getting yourself back on track after Christmas:

Start the day the right way with Millet Porridge. Millet contains higher levels of essential amino acids (protein) in an easily digestible form. The apple slices add vitamin C as well as gut nourishing pectin.

Try this immune boosting Tofu stew to fill yourself up with nutrient rich vegetables, immune boosting garlic, ginger and turmeric and high quality tofu protein.

Or make even a dessert an opportunity for nourishing your body with this stunning tofu-based honey and lemon pudding.

Kick Start Detox right now

“Detox” happens in your body every moment you live. You have 5 organs which help cleanse your body: your lungs exhale waste air, your skin sweats the bad stuff, your gut clears food waste, your kidneys excrete liquid waste, and your liver cleanses your blood. Your liver filters more than 1 litre of blood per hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It never stops. And it requires good nutrition to work well. How can you best support this major detox organ?

Make Your Food Work for You – Basic Detox Tips:

  • Eat foods rich in protein toensure your liver gets supplied with loads of nutrients to help it do its job. Protein and minerals or vitamins are top of the list here. So, eat a diet rich in proteins such as fish, meat, tofu, beans or pulses.
  • Eat A Rainbow A Day. As well as eating lots of protein, you needs to also include a wide range of colourful vegetables and fruits in your diet. Colourful vegetables and fruit supply your liver with the right amount of vitamins, minerals and other phytonutrients it needs to do its job well. The “5-A-Day” rule is a handy guide here.
  • Brilliantly Detoxifying Foods include garlic, olive oil, citrus fruits, green tea, berries, walnuts, cabbage, fermented foods like kimchi, oily fish, avocado, rocket salad, artichokes and grapes. If that’s not a list to choose from …

Conclusion

Resetting after the holidays doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By making small, consistent changes like choosing nutrient-rich foods, staying hydrated, and incorporating healthy snacks, you can kickstart your year and set the tone for long-term success.
