  • 2 slices bacon, cut into 1/2" pieces (optional)
  • 2 tbsp. reserved bacon fat or extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 lb. green beans, trimmed and halved 10 cloves garlic
  • quartered 1" piece ginger
  • minced 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 1/2 tbsp. hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp. oyster sauce

If using bacon, in a large skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until golden and fat is mostly rendered, 5 minutes. Transfer bacon to a bowl and reserve 2 tablespoons bacon fat in pan.

If not using bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil.

Step 2

Add in green beans, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using) and stir frequently until beans are beginning to blister, 6 to 8 minutes. Stir in black and white pepper.

Step 3

Stir in vinegar, hoisin, and oyster sauce until evenly combined, then return bacon (if using) to skillet and add green onions. Cook, stirring frequently until green onions soften. Remove pan from heat and stir in sesame oil.

Step 4

Garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
